i drive a 04 RS 5spd- i can not put the car in 2nd until the speedo is under 25km/h and 1st until the speedo is under 5km/h. [these are rough estimates] when i say i can not put the car into those gears, i mean physically.

for example i can clutch move out of 3rd to downshift into 2nd- but i can not move the stick into the 2nd position unless i am the speedo is under the aforementioned speed.the same applies to 1st-granted i don;t downshift into 1st. it is like there is something blocking me or something of the like. is this normal? i don;t think so. what could cause this? any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.

I am assming that it works OK when its warm. If that is the case I would change over to a synthetic oil. It will help in the cold weather. Mine started crunching going into 2nd under load and when I put in the Red Line MT-90 that went away.

when it is warm it is smoother but i still have a trouble getting it into 2nd above 25km/h. like i said i can;t get the shifter into the 2nd gear position if i am going faster then 25 or so. the shifter physically will not let me move it into 2nd. its weird

do you blip the throttle when you downshift?

if it works with blipping.. your tranny fluid needs changing, or your syncros are wearing/worn
