2002 Echo CEL

I am trying to help a co-worker with his 2002 Toyota Echo. With in the last two days while driving his car,it started to run rough and display some hesitation issues. His CEL came on and I pulled a P0301 code with my Innova 1003 scan tool. I searched the code number but nothing came back. I know my way around my Toyota trucks, but I am not familiar with the Echo. I am assuming plugs/wires, but looking for a code diagnosis first. I popped the hood and could not see the wires or the plugs, I assume that they are under the cover on the engine. Thank you in advance for your opinions and advice.

I think is a misfire code,#1 cyl .If the spark plugs and wires are not changed before then start with them first and see what happens.

I just ordered a new Cylinder one coil pack from local Toyota dealer for 95.63. Aftermarket were 89.99-99.99 and nobody had one, so I went with OEM. I am probably going to use a good set of platinum plugs as well. In the seven years that the owner has had the car he can't recall ever having had plugs done.

Start with the plugs, if it's still happening then change the coil.
