high octane fuel

hi there,

i have vitz 2003 with 1SZ-FE.want to ask if can use high actane fuel in my car?does this increas fuel economy and performance?or effect my engine performance and life ? thanks for any feed back

Octane fax

Rule of thumb is to use what the manufacturer recommends; spending more on a higher octane just makes the oil companies richer than they already are! In many cases you can use a lower octane fuel, but it usually decreases performance, and should never be used if a pinging sound from your engine results from it.

X2. Running a higher octane isn't necessary as the PCM will just alter the A/F ratio to compensate. It won't add power.

Sometimes using higher octane fuel than what the manufacturer recommends can lead to increased carbon buildup in the combustion chamber.
