2000 Echo quits running

I'm looking at buying a 2000 echo from my brother and it has a problem with staying running. It will start but as soon as you put it in gear and start moving it will go only a short distance such as 20 or 30 feet and then it goes dead. It's as if it runs out of fuel. I'm told that the fuel pump is working and that there is presure at the fuel rail if that makes since. It will restart and idle just fine but will go dead again if you try to go any distance. Where should I start with checking things and can anyone direct me to a wiring diagram? Thanks for any help.

Sounds like the symptoms of water in the gas or maybe a plugged fuel filter..I'd get that fuel pump out of the tank and clean/replace the filter and check the gas line to the engine to make sure there isnt an inline filter somewhere along the way,put new gas in the tank..
