Poor Gas Mileage Toyota Echo 2001 Sedan

Hi there,

I have a 2001 Echo with 75000 kilometers and im only getting 250 km per tank , which is horrible. I changed my spark plug last week in hope it would improve thing, it didnt do anything . What can I get fixed to have the same 550 - 600 km per tank that i had with my 2000 Echo.

I also have a rough idle , it does like a pop pop pop pop when im not touching the gas pedal. As soon as i press on the pedal a bit it dissapeer. It only does that when it's hot... im thinking it's maybe the cable or something.

thanks

Definitely not normal, not sure what to check as it could be a dozen different possibilities , however i might start with the MAF sensor up by the aircleaner as it regulates the mixing of air and gas to the engine .http://media.photobucket.com/image/t...1010-side1.jpg

it looks like this and if that small electrode with the blob on the end gets dirty you may have fuel related problems,if you do decide to clean it just spray it with MAF sensor cleaner from Canadian Tire and dont touch the electrode with your fingers as its extremely fragile and costs around $200 for a new one.
Welcome to the forum.
