2001 Echo starting problem

Hi - I have a 2001 Echo and it has problems starting. I push the clutch in to crank....usually nothing haappens....if I keep trying to crank by pushing down the clutch hard...it will usually finally crank. It sounds like it may be the starter, but eventually it will crank and then it runs fine. The clutch seems fine too.....no problemss shifting at all. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The clutch safety cut out switch may need to be adjusted,thats the switch on the top of the clutch pedal that needs to engage when starting the car to prevent accidentally starting the car in gear.

Thanks Jambo....it was the clutch switch....the switch itself is not adjustable...but I rigged an extension and it cranks like a champ!
