Question hand brake rubber blocks down position?

Hi...Is it common and how do I fix the darn hand brake in my yaris sedan o8 5spd? It has the rubber casing on it at base and it forever gets jammed so I cant fully put the brake down. (the rubber casing at base jams it)

I cant seem to readjust it no matter how hard I try.

Am I missing something besides yanking it off completely?

Thanks!

just to clarify, you are talking about the handbrake lever inside the car? Does the handbrake light stay on? post a pic if you can.

Yeah handbrake between seats in five spd inside car.

Cant poss' post a pic it wouldnt be easy to shoot...its the rubber casing at base of handle it gets all bunched up under the handle and blocks it from being fully put down.

Brake lite' well I dont pull out till the the rubber thing is dislodged fully its just a pia. Thanks for input

PS: we park on a grade all the time so must engage it and fully.

The trim you are looking at is to keep things from falling into the console, it sounds like it became deformed, I wouldn't cut it, just adjust the handbrake so you don't pull as high

Thanks for input Hey question...if I dont pull brake up all the way do I have the same protection of holding car as if I do pull all the way?

Guess its just instinct to pull up tight on hill. Never thought about it before.

Our car creep fwd if you dont pull brake did since new.

You can adjust the handbrake (without looking at it up close I can't say for sure how but it's inside the rear brake drums) so it takes fewer clicks until it's tight. Some people set it so you can't pull more than 3 clicks no matter how hard you pull, but you always have to pull all the way to hold the car in place.

If you adjusted your rear brake shoes the trim piece might not interfere.

If you're still under warranty I'd ask your dealer to replace the trim piece
