Maybe take the car to someone you trust to have the safety questions answered? When you're not comfortable with a car's safety, it might be time to move on.
With all that said, make sure you finances are in order. When you take that car in to get traded, you'll be taking a larger hit (pun not intended) on the re-sale value than if the car had not been in a collision. You might not be able to fit the expenses into your budget in for a similar car. If you go to a dealer, they are going to "buy" the car from you, and on paper they will put the difference left on the current onto your next loan. Then they'll make it sound like a good idea, but you shouldn't owe more than what any car is worth.
You're not going to come out anywhere near even on this so consider your options well.
