Fuel Economy: Yaris sedan vs hatchback

Since the "Yaris" is actually two different cars I was wondering if there was a detectable difference btw the fuel mileage they get. The Sedan is a Belta that is 169 inches long, the hatchback is a Vitz that is a full 19 inches shorter.

It's really a toss up because their numbers come out close. I want to note that the first Yaris to break 50mpg was a hatchback but later on, sedans did catch up. Though in theory the Yaris sedan is slightly more aerodynamic, in practice it really depended on the driver.

Basically if the driver knew how to exploit the cars potentials, it did fine. Also important is that with no hypermiling and using commonsense driving, the Yaris could have a 45mpg average.
