yaris transmission fluid change

Anybody with a Yaris awake out there?
I volunteered to help my buddy change out some automatic transmission fluid in his 2008 Yaris, and from what I've been reading, there is no dipstick. OK, I'm prepared for that, I've got a container that I always measure exactly how much oil I take out and am expecting just under 3 quarts. However, not having seen the car yet, I'm wondering where the tranny fluid goes back in. Maybe it will be obvious but I thought I'd ask just in case it isn't. He's coming over tomorrow
Thanks!

I have a 07 yaris and it does have a dip stick. Check the fluid after you pour some in. Keep the transmission oil hot by running the engine for a few minutes before you check.

You also may want to replace the filter and clean the magnet but you would have to take off the drain pan for this.

transmission fluid job done

Thanks, salmonz, for the response. I did find it to have the dipstick so there was no problem at all.

One thing you want to keep in mind for the future is that warming up the engine is not sufficient to heat up the transmission oil; that just heats up the engine oil. You have to actually drive it to get the tranny fluid hot. Not sure how much but I drove for about five miles.

Take care,

~Dan

No dipstick?

WHen my wife bought her 2010 Yaris the sales person in Cleveland Tennessee told here that this transmission was sealed at the factory, no way to service.
I crawled under it today to put syn oil in it after the freebie oil changed ran out, and noticed a drain plug in the bottom of the transmission.
So, I looked for a dipstick, there it was, front right...with a net little clip holding it in so it does not rattle out.
THe dipstick says on it that it should not need changing/replacing...but, I am thinking, after 30,000 miles couldn't hurt...
Opinions?

Rbar,

Considering that you only get about half the fluid out when you use the tranny drain plug (about half remains in the torque converter on most automatics), I like to "change" the transmission oil every 20000 miles. That way you keep the fluid pretty clean all the time and never have to pay someone to purge the system. I don't like anyone touching my cars so that's what I've determined to be a good compromise.

Dan has the best idea and there are opinions out there that purging or flushing a transmission can actually be potentially harmful. Who knows the truth!

I have a further question. Toyota told me today there is nothing more than a screen in the pan and no real filter even though there are filters to buy from 3rd parties. Can anybody tell me conclusively before I pull the pan off if I should even bother? Anybody installed a real filter and was it easy?

most cars don't have a filter for trans. Just a screen that lets the heavy particles drop into and if your lucky there will be a magnet.

Anyway... Only reason to drop the pan would be if think your trans might be having problems. Check for metal shavings and gear teeth or your just a clean freak and want to clean everything.

Other wise just change out the fluid and your good to go ...
