*** SOLVED *** [Need help identifying this device]
Hi TN'ers
My 'new' 2003 sedan has an odd device installed in the cabin, on the headliner, and next to the mirror.
The broker (who sold me the car) thinks it's a receiver for a remote starter, and did advise me that the fob was missing. It flashes a blue LED, which leads me to think it's (also) an alarm system? But it's in a location that's too open for an alarm system.
Here it is (the light blue background is sky):
On the front, it clearly states FM 433-100.
If it's a remote starter or alarm, would it be possible to locate a dealer and buy a fob and have them reset the system for me to use?
Thanks.

Reason: Edited title.
I believe that is the receiver for the Auto Start (brand) remote start/alarm system, which does use an FM transmitter. I've seen this before and that was the brand it came from. It does come with a remote to turn on/off the alarm AND start it. If the blue light is always on, it's in Valet Mode. If it flashes, it's armed.
Since you're in Canada, I'll assume it was installed there. In this case, I'm putting my money on this:
I neglected to mention that the car has no power locks, and is now drivable. I can lock/unlock the doors and trunk manually, and start the car and drive it with no issues. Is that what 'valet mode' is?
It is flashing, and yet, no alarm has sounded yet...
Looking online, I've seen other antennas described as SR 433-100, on the autostart.ca website.
Thanks.

valet mode only means it won't get turned on/activated. But if it's blinking, then it is apparently ON (but maybe it was installed by an inexperienced place). Also, maybe the siren has been disconnected or something is just not working.
On many alarms, if a zone is activated (in this case, a defective door pin switch or hood pin switch or trunk) or any other zone is activated, the light will remain flashing to let you know a zone is not secure. Some (but not all) will go ahead and arm the system even with a zone open. I'm guessing you can learn a lot from the manual at the link above.
Between us both, we WILL figure this out! But yes, if you find a remote (maybe from the manufacturer) chances are you WILL have an alarm and/or remote start.
Oh, does that blue light ALWAYS flash, even if the car is running or not running? If so, look for a thin red wire connected to your battery (unless it was hooked to power under the dash) that has a 30 amp fuse. If you find a red wire with 30 amp fuse, remove the fuse and see if the blinking stops. It probably will.

Yes, that's the same company! Just in Canada. So apparently you need to call or e-mail one of the FEW authorized dealers in Canada and they might be able to tell you how to get a remote, or how to stop the light from blinking. Good luck.
First thing's First.
Locate the control module (big box) to determine the hardware/software versions. Read the correct manual.
You can call me anything (within reason).
So, as far as the hardware or software versions, I don't think that is really going to matter. What would be best is if you can find the box. Then you can at least get the model number off of it. The remote is most likely going to work for that model number regardless of the hardware/software versions.
And YES, if you can get the model number off the unit, read the correct manual. And good luck with THAT (I just looked and those Auto Starts are pretty complex, complicated units!).
Let me know what you find out.

Another success story! Just what we like to hear! I'm glad you got it all figured out. That's cool you got ahold of someone during the weekend.
Yeah, it's a bummer you don't have PDL. But that model has no alarm? Bummer! They made some that were ONLY did remote start but others that had alarms in them. That would be cool if yours had the alarm too.
Glad to see you got your fob! Hey, did you actually find the box and identify the model number?
I'm glad I was able to help. I'll be here for a LONG time, so if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Yup, on a Saturday, and it took around twenty minutes.
No, I couldn't even locate the box, nevermind figuring out the model number.
There's a 'hood pin'.
And since the four doors and trunk activate a light, I have everything I need for an alarm system (short of someone breaking glass).
I'm not sure why, or if it means anything, but the blue light still flashes when the car's parked. Still, there's no arming of any system, so I'm sure there's no alarm - but the flashing blue light might make them think there is!
