ES drive pattern

I have a 2008 Yaris 1.4 diesel car with the automated "manual" gearbox. It is right hand drive and bought in the UK.

I have browsed the owner's manual several times looking for the ES drive pattern but have not found it. (The manual is very boring to read as a book due to the repetition on descriptions for the various models - well that's my excuse!)

Can anyone tell me what it does (should!) do?

Just behind the gear lever there is a switch marked ES and there is a light on the dashboad descibed as the ES driving pattern.

After two years I have decided to work out what these odd things do.
