HELP! Blinking amber/red light under driver side dash

Hey everyone.

I'm new here as I do not own an echo but my gf does (2002 sedan base). Tonight while driving home I noticed a blinking amber, then red, light under the driver side dash above the gas pedal. When I inspected it, I see a small box under the dash (not deep inside it) with 2 wires coming out of it. The wires look similar to TV cables (that screw into the wall and back of TV). The blinking did not change when I performed certain things (drive a bit faster to check tranny, adjust heating controls, etc) and did not change in frequency (started blinking in amber for a bit, then randomly red, then back to amber, etc).

I have tried searching the forum and tried googling it but to no avail.

I don't see how it would matter, however, in the sake of needing assistance, no it is not financed. She bought it in Sept. of this year. No problems thus far except a pin hole leak in the pressure lines (had the check engine light checked and it is a pin hole in the pressure lines).

my apologies, it is an 03

I didn't mean anything bad by the question. A lot of car sellers in this area place a device on the car that can locate it and even disable it if the buyer stops making payments. I was just wondering if that might be it.

It sounds like some sort of aftermarket alarm box or sensor to me. Does the car have an alarm system added or could it have had one installed by a previous owner?

No worries, I was just wondering why it would be asked.

It is a base and does not have an alarm system (no power locks, windows, a/c, etc.). I assume it's a sensor but have no idea for what as nothing has changed during driving.

Yeah I was thinking of doing so, but I won't be able to until tomorrow evening. I've just never seen anything like it, especially in the foot well.

It may have been tucked up inside the dash all along and just fell down where it can be seen. Post your pic and we'll see what it is. Look and see if there are any labels or numbers on it too.
