Question Need Echo stereo replacement insight

Hey guys,

I have a 2000 Echo and was looking for suggestions on stereo upgrade options. Has anyone upgraded to an aftermarket stereo in one of these cars? If so what type of system did you go with? What was needed to do the install, Difficulty of install Etc.
I was considering a double din system. Has anyone put one of these in? How well is the fit and would I still need an install kit or would it just fit into place perfectly.
Any info would help.

Thanks

Mike

Hey Mike, Im on my second stereo in my 04. It had a Panasonic in it when I got it. The adapter plate will allow din size with a cubby hole big enough for smokes and Bic lighter. The next problem will be the stock speakers. They suck when more power is added. I bypassed original wiring(way to small guage to mess with) and put 6.5" in each fr door and a sub in the hatch. This didn't sound right so I put 2 more 6.5s in the rear deck. At that point, didn't have enough power for speakers so I added another amp to run 4x6.5" Type SD Alpine. 500watts(mono) on a 10" SD sub and second Alpine amp for the door and deck. Now the sound was great down at low volume but took a dump at the levels I like. went back to Visions and got 1500watt Type RS sub, 4 Type RS 6.5s and rewired whole system again. Now there's not enough 12volt power from batterie. Biggest one CTC had cured that problem. My sales guy offered a new Alpine deck to me for $100 just to make the whole system Alpine!!! ( be continued if anyone still readinglol:

Great

Thanks for the reply. I just replaced the speakers in my doors. I used kenwoods.

lol I wish you would have warned me bout how much of a pain in the A** it was gonna be messing with the factory speakers and the way they are mounted into the doors. lol

When they designed this car. I would definitely say that the stock speakers were NOT intended to be removed and replaced!!! lmao

Yes I am wanting to put maybe just a 350W amp and one 10" sub in it. Thats really all I need in a car this small... I'm wanting good sound for ME not for everyone else on the road to hear too lol.
But it may be a little while. My wife isnt too happy about the money I've already spent on everything so I'm gonna have to wait for things to cool down for a awhile.
