Echo door speaker replacement

I just replaced the speakers in the doors of my 2000 Echo.

Let me just say that it SUCKED!!!

Why would toyota mount them things in there like that? I ended up buying some kenwood speakers before researching the clearance issues and all the other issues I heard about from other people online. By the time I researched online, I had already busted out the factory speakers Mounts and all. Had I searched ahead of time I would have known that I could have just cut out the old speakers and mounted the new ones in the old mount. So anyways, I ended up cutting out the perforated circular part of the door panel where the speaker sits behind and just mounted right onto the door panel so that the speaker grill protrudes out of the door panel. Believe it or not it actually looks pretty darn good!
The speakers sound a heck of alot better too.
I have matching kenwood 6x9's on the way... they should be here tomorrow so I'll be replacing the rear speakers when I get time. I dont think I'll have as much trouble with them though.... at least I hope not.
I'm still undecided on whether or not to replace the stock radio. I've heard people have problems with the wiring and things not working after replacing theirs and I dont know if its worth the trouble. Toyota's Wiring is pretty strange for those who are used to traditional american specs.
Just thought I'd share this with yall. Feel free to comment or give suggestions.

I replaced the deck (pioneer) and rear speakers (fosgates). The deck was easy (good luck getting it out), and the speakers were a pain (needed to drill new holes. For the deck, you'll need a Toyota adapter for the wiring. good luck

I had to get Kenwoods cause of the shallow doors. I decided to go with my whole system of kenwood Execlon. Very nice! I have a pannasonic head unit.
