Gen1 Iced in NY

What's your solution if both wheels spin on ice, and you are stuck in a parking spot? Recently I got stuck (and AAA was BUSY!) and it took quite an effort to get traction, as one wheel spun, and then the other, to extricate myself. After using salt, cardboard, and then some plastic traction strips; only some sand finally got me out! Any new suggestions, other than not parking there?

Tyre chains. That can help give you some grip in snow and ice conditions above what your tyres can provide.

Unfortunately they're not an option- it's illegal here, unless you're up in the mountains where it's permitted. I meant just for just getting out of a parking spot.

Then, not much, besides a good set of snow tyres...

my echo can't get out of its own way without snow tires in the winter. I use Champiros, which for me are cheap and effective.

you didn't hear it from me, but if you put the manual transmission in gear and ease out the clutch gently without throttle, you can then get out and push it out of a lot of situations. of course, once you're unstuck, you have a moving unattended automobile.
