EVAP leak

I am currently attempting to track down a small evap leak that is setting off check engine light. I checked all hoses in engine bay, double checked gas cap (reset code, it came back), so now I am leaning towards charcoal canister. I was under the car today to see what it looks like and what would be involved to remove it. I also spotted a smaller black plastic box in line with it. I was wondering what that part was. It is linked to the canister via rubber hoses. Any help appreciated.

Yes. If you follow the lines down from where you fill it there is a smaller black plastic part in line with the charcoal canister. I am thinking it is the valve part of the system. Thanx.

my 05 had a leak at the gas cap, but the issue was a bit of rust at the top of the filler neck. I sprayed it with rust check and a 'polish' with a rag. no issues since
