additive?

I recently had the clutch in my 2000 Echo replaced. They replaced the clutch disc, pressure plate and release bearing. The vehicle up shifts ok, however it requires more effort to get into gear when downshifting. Does anyone know of an additive acceptable for a manual transmission for a 2000 Echo? Also, how frequently should it be changed?

I not sure any additive would resolve your problem. Changing the tranny oil might. Try it and see if it down shifts a bit smoother.

I am unsure what the recommended interval is for a Echo, but 50-60k miles on a car is my rule of thumb.

Either aftermarket clutch parts, insufficient clutch pedal freeplay (it should be adjustable) or inferior transmission lube.

Red Line MT-90 (75W-90) always makes shifting easier but it costs around $10-12 a quart. Napa stores carry Stalube 85W90 GL-4 gear lube which would be the second best choice and it's around $4-5 a quart. Nearly all other gear lubes are GL-5 and you want to avoid those or shifting will be more difficult.
