Gas Pumping Issue

Hello everyone,
Lately my mom's '01 Echo has been having issues after pumping gas. First off, the car would start just fine wherever she was then after she would get gas the car would struggle to start. I did a full tune up and this issue went away. Now that that's solved another issue arises. when pumping gas no she has to barley hold the trigger because if pulls it to hard the vapor detector just shut it off as if it were full. Surprisingly enough the car is not even throwing codes! Im really stumped on this issue and need to know what to replace. Can anyone please help me.

USA My own gas issue with my 2002

My gas tank buzzes like its full of bees. It stops when I take the gas cap off. Then, it resumes in a few minutes. I've taken it to a few places, and no one has had any guesses for me.

This doesn't answer your question, but maybe there is a kind of common gas tank mystery with the Echos.

I did a search using "Echo gas tank" and found this. You may find something more directly applicable with a better search.

Interesting... Seems that there may be a deffect with echos tanks. Is there seal near the valve that may need replacing.

fix for gas pumping problem

This is easy and cheap to fix. The vapor canister inlets/outlets need to be sprayed with silicone spray (a lubricant that does not damage rubber). The vapor canister is a black plastic box about 8" x 10" near the muffler. Slide the hoses off it (the ones projecting toward the rear bumper) and shove the tiny tube from a can of silicone spray in them, then spray. This will lubricate the rubber parts inside the on-off solenoid switches inside the vapor canister. Slide the hoses back on. Then turn your key two clicks in the ignition, several times. This will work the lubricant into the solenoid switches, which are activated on/off by turning the key in the ignition.

I invented this trick when my mechanic told me a secret: the solenoid switches go bad and people usually replace the whole vapor canister for $300-$400. But one guy said he completely removed his solenoid switch and rebuilt it. A lot of work, and not necessary! Silicone spray will preserve the solenoid's parts and help them work like new again.

My wife's Aveo had a similar problem. Hard to start, or would not start for a few minutes after a fill-up. Turned out to be a faulty fuel pressure sensor.
