2000 Toyota Echo Manual C150 Transmission replacement

Looking into the feasibility of completely swapping out my transmission and looking for some advice as to compatibility.

Pretty sure it is my input shaft bearing (which is not an expensive part at all) but I cannot for the life of me get into this transmission case. The gears you have top pull in the endcap are just not coming out at all.

So my options seem to be. Take the transmission to a specialist and take a bit of a gamble on how much it costs me in terms of labour and parts, or start looking for a replacement. Echo's are not especially prevalent in the US so if I am unable to find a replacement locally does anyone know what other transmission would be a bolt in substitute?

Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Canada

Around eastern Ontario every third car is an Echo so the wreckers should be full of them. I'll keep an eye on this thread as I've replaced both my front wheel bearing sets and I still have an ominous but as yet anonymous noise in there.
