2004 Echo - Purchase?

Hi

I am looking at a 2004 Echo. It has 118000 km on it. I can see not rust. I took it for a spin, and it seems OK. The guy wants 5500 CD$ for it. Is this reasonable?

I will take it to a mechanic to get checked out before buying, but wondering about the price and quality?

Greetings!
Not sure if the price is ok, because I am not from canada so I cannot judge the worth in your area.
As far as vehicle quality and reliability i am SOOO pleased with my echo.
I bought it with fairly high miles two years ago and put about 40k miles a year on it since and have had no problems that were not my own fault until today and it was fairly minor.

These are very reliable and cheap to maintain vehicles. The best part (at least in the US) is that the echo has better power to weight ratio than most 2012 economy cars in its class!

The price seems about right for a good condition safety and e-tested echo. I have an 05 with 200K on it. I've replaced brakes, tires, exhaust manifold gasket, front bearing and headlights. Very low repair costs for the mileage. Listen for a bearing hum before you buy. They're expensive to replace and it may help you in negotiating price.

Echos are a very reliable car and with proper maintenance can easily reach 300,000kms with minimal problems, rust will probably be your biggest enemy against longevity so look for a rust and corrosion specialist in your area and have the car oil sprayed, should be about $100 a year, well worth it ..
$5500 sounds like its in the ball park in fact if the car is really clean and the owner has done all maintenance it sounds like a great deal.., ask if he'll take $5000.

-have 110,000 km's on mine with only a front brake job
-starts extremely well in the winter which is important in Winnipeg
-for sure, get it checked out, but if it's in good shape, will be an excellent vehicle except:
get yourself a Obusform seat/back support.

I have a 2002 Echo automatic sedan with 168k miles on it. Fabulous car. Consider the source on this, but you won't find a better car for dependability, mileage, repair cost, regular maintenance...

I get about 40 mpg with suburban driving. I live in GA so there is almost no real winter here. Avg January temp is 31' F. I don't have any reference point for you in Canada, but here in the summers when the temps are right at 100 with a high humidity, it runs like a top in stop and go traffic with the air going wide open without missing a beat.

All that I need for the trunk is a spare, jumper cables, and an air compressor that plugs into the cigarette lighter.
