Question Clicking (metal) noise from driver's side front wheel

Hi,

I have a clicking (metal) noise coming from the driver's side front wheel. Here are the details :

- I had a wheel bearing changed on the same wheel 2 weeks before this noise came

- I notice the noise at slow speed, mostly when there is a significant change in speed (accelerating from zero or changing from one gear to another)

- I notice it when going straight, backwards or when turning, doesn't seem to matter

- I never heard it with the brakes on or when the clutch is pressed and the car is rolling in neutral

- I dismounted the wheel, calliper and rotor to check for any moving stuck object like a rock and found nothing. Inspected all parts and nothing seemed abnormal

- I swapped the wheel with another one and the noise was still there

All I can think of is that when the shop changed the wheel bearing, they had to split the rotor and wheel hub that might have been seized together. Now there is some loose back and forth between rotor and studs and I believe that the noise I'm hearing might be those too parts clicking together when the car is moving ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's making me crazy and I'm about to bring it to a shop but I would really hate to do that since I love getting my hands dirty...

I doubt it is a CV joint because of these reasons : (I could be wrong)

- The noise seems to occur randomly
- I don't hear the noise while turning more than when going straight
- I never hear the noise when the clutch is pressed or while braking
- Boots are in good condition

Had a similar noise on 2004 Echo...brakes get rusty after a large rain storm and noise starts. Brakes work okay. Replaced brake disks first time, the second time lived with the noise.

The video helps: I think it's brake pads jumping which would result from anti-rattle springs not in right or left out. The fact that you don't get it when braking supports this. If this is the case it won't hurt anything, and some people leave them out on purpose (often taxis) likely to reduce costs since taxis get them replaced frequently .

I don't see an anti-rattle spring as one of my calliper components :

I had a look and there was a missing shim on one of the brake pad. I stole one from the other wheel to see if the noise would stop but it's still there.

Actually, I realized that I could ear it just by swinging the car while it's parked. So I asked a friend to swing it and I put my hand on the inner CV joint boot and I could feel something wrong in there when the noise is heard.

So is it possible to have a broken cv joint that wouldn't make noise while turning ?

since noise occurred after wheel bearing replacement, check the dust shield. sometimes it gets bent slightly durring bearing replacement and will rub on edge of rotor. seen this more often that not. also check the abs sensor and make sure its not riding on tone wheel or cotter pin from control arm or tie rod end rubbing something.
