I found a set of gauges at the jy that had a factory tach and want to put them in my 2000 echo. the plugs match but the cluster doesn't work properly. is it just a pin change? any info would be great.
My ScanGage does that for me, ... can you get any info off the gauges to get a makers website? They ought to be able to supply the pinout to match up with the car terminal layout.

what i have is a factory tach/speedo cluster from an 04 echo that i want to put in my 02 echo... its a direct fit replacement but functionally it is not so i am hoping its a pinout diff on the tach cluster....
Any luck on this after. I did the same thing, I picked up a gauge cluster from an 05 echo rs hatchback with the rpm built in, The plugs from my 04 plug in to the newer cluster but it doesn't function properly.
ill get a pic, but it physically the same and plugs into the oe wires. nothing really seems to work properly but its been a while. know if its just a pinout change is what i was trying to find out. i dont have schematics for either year.
With the Tercels, it would work to swap the clusters if they were from the same year car. Maybe the small car platform had it's instrument wiring redesigned annually? Good luck.
i'm assuming the tach/speedo is a single piece which comes with the gas gauge and various lights (door, temp, cel, etc)
what doesn't work when it's plugged in?
if its just the tach, maybe trace the wires and wire it to the ecu or obdII port?
yep... I'm sure that the echo never intended to have a tech so, they probably didn't include the wiring for it or they just didn't plug it into the computer. You'd have to go to the junk yard and trace the wires from the ECU to the Control pod. You may even have to add some wires. Hopefully if anyone does this they can give out the pins. Sounds like more trouble then it's worth for getting a real tach. Like everyone else ... maybe go to other Yaris forums and see if you can get the wiring diagrams for the year/model of gauge you got... Then you'll be one step closer to tracing your own wiring.
I have an '05 and have seen other '05 echos with the factory tach setup. I have been looking for one myself. I think 2000 thru 2002 are different than the 2003 to 2005 setup.
