I would start by checking your fuses and relays for the fuel pump.

I would check to see if you are getting power to the fuel pump, I would hook a volt meter to the connector to check for power. If you are getting power I would blame the fuel pump, if you don't get any power I would check the wiring leading to the fuel pump.

i got power to the fuel pump. i removed the fuel pump to make sure i had everything in the right place and noticed that the o-ring fuel pump was not seated right. i replaced it and got a good stream of fuel coming out of the fuel line before the fuel rail. do not know the exact pressure due to me forgetting the pressure gauge at work. checked the injectors and 3 out of the 4 are pulsating slowly and 1 is pulsating normally.

At this point I would put a pressure gauge on it. The only other thing that comes to my mind is faulty injectors or the injectors not firing properly because the ecm is not commanding them for whatever reason. It might be worth your while to have the car scanned for codes and the injectors professionally cleaned and flow tested. My local machine shop does this, perhaps there is one in your area that does as well.

it has a timing chain and it is in good shape for 165K. has a little slack in it but nothing bad enough to make it jump timing.

Let us know what happens. I hope the repair bill isn't too bad.
