UK yaris fan belt adjustment

hi
i have to adjust the fan/drive belt on my 1.0 yaris gs , is it with the alternator fixings? I noticed a long bolt and bracket at the top of the alternator, do i slacken off the alternator bolts and adjust with this bracket? My manual only tells me the free play measurements but not how to adjust, could some one explain fully before i start undoing bolts!
it looks like it should be straight forward but you cant be sure these days! Thanks
andy

Just a guess since no one else waded in, but based on my 2000 Echo my alternator needs to move to adjust the belt, ... loosen a bit and pry a bit. Not a high tech job, ...

Hello,

This is a bit late but I just registered as I have a 2003 Echo that I service. The belt adjustment should be similar to the Echo.

There are 2 bolts that you have to loosen to adjust the belt. The top one, 12MM, with the bracket is the adjusting bolt. One below the alternator, 14MM, is the pivot bolt, and it also has to be loosened. Use a short socket as the space is a bit tight. You may also need a cheater bar as the bottom bolt is tight.

I inserted a pry bar from the side behind the alternator and pried against the motor mount. Once you get the right tension, lock down the adjusting bolt and then the pivot bolt.

I just changed the belts on the Echo and plan to start a thread on the change if I can post pictures.
