Oops! Non-Toyota at fluid into 2003 Echo

Hi all,

I drained the fluid from my Echo and replaced it with Dexron III from AutoZone. Their online maintenance guide specified Dexron III so that's what I used. Only after I had replaced the drained fluid did I notice the dipstick specified Toyota type iv fluid. I did some research online which told me I should only use the recommended type. So I went to the local dealership and bought the OEM fluid. Drained the tranny again and filled this time with the right stuff.

So, my question is, is it bad that there may still be a little bit of the wrong fluid in there? Maybe 200ml out of 3.1 liters?

I bought enough fluid to do another replacement so if I do it again there'd be even less of the Dexron in there.

Thanks all!

Matt

I would get some more tranny fluid and do a drain, refill, drive (making sure to go through all gears including reverse) and then drain, refill, drive again. That way, you get most of the old fluid out, including the torque converter.
