Replace Belts 2001 Echo

Hello,
I have a 2001 Echo and I am trying to find a good description on how to replace the belts on it. I could do it without anything, but I have found there is always a little something that you don't know that will make the job easier or harder. Also does anyone know if anyone in the US has the Haynes Manual from Haynes Australia available? Really don't want to spend $90 plus for it and shipping. Thanks

This is for an early Scion xB - but it should be the same engine and essentially the same procedure.

it's fairly easy to do:
all you need is a pry bar

1. loosen the top alternator bolt (12mm i think), you dont have to loosen the one at the bottom of the alternator
- belt goes outside of crank, a/c, inside of w/p, outside of alternator

2. use the prybar/hammer or something and hit the alternator so it goes in to relieve the tension
- i used my pry bar and due to a lack of space infront of the alternator, it took me a few pendulum swings

3. replace alternator belt, tension with prybar and tighten bolt
- to tension the belt, slide the pry bar between the alternator and engine from the passenger side (do not do it from the front because the oil control valve is middle/rightish of the alternator)

4. drive, retighten if needed

as for the power steering belt, it should be similar to the alternator belt
- maybe 2 bolts to loosen and it should swing inside to relieve tension (basically from | to \)

Excellent article. I could not get the power steering belt but now I can give it another try. The only thing that could have been better was less sarcasm. It wasn't needed and didn't help, thanks anyway.
