If you are really determined and know (as much as you can) that you can see yourself with living with a manual daily, then get it. From what I hear the Yaris transmission isn't bad but not that great, kinda clunky. But that's subjective.

I'm in the same boat or similar. I'm not the greatest with a manual, I know what to do, I just have to apply it. I have a Failmatic and regret it ever sense. But I will have to live with it till my next car. But like you I'm determined to get a manual and really be good at it. Obviously keep in mind newer cars I'm guessing can take more abuse on the manual and what not. Not to say you purposely do it.

Best of luck and get what you want! Don't live in regret like me!

How is the auto more expensive than the manual? Aren't some manuals electronically controlled as well?

Some of its nice but if you are a driving enthusiasts or even the fact it intrudes so much it can be counter productive and endanger you. Ironic!
I'm pretty sure all manufacturers will be using electric throttle. It's to save gas. Hope they can find ways to make the throttle respond faster. But, it's not really an issue on an automatic. Many auto Yaris owners are very happy. Maybe they are just easier to please than us stick driving crowd.

Think about it. Especially now, an auto or dual clutch etc. is far more complicated and packed with technology than a manual. How would a manual be electronically controlled? Maybe throttle response but that's not direct to the manual. Autos are more expensive to fix and make.

Yeah for newer cars these days electronic throttle is a new norm. It saves costs and yes FE. Yeah it seems very few automakes can make a direct feeling and percise throttle response. Toyota isn't up there when it comes to that. I heard the Corolla was horrible at that.

But auto is boring. Trust me I have one
