Stuck Toyota Echo Fuel Door

My fuel door has became stuck during past week, I don't think the plastic lock pin is the problem I think its a cable release issue, prying on the door, never helped, and only yanking hard on the driver side release cable and wiggling it allowed it to finally open. It took a good 5 minutes to get the door open. Not a good thing especially when out of town after hours with my low fuel warning going off. Since then I lubed up the lock pin anyway with wd40 and I've tried it 3 or 4 more times since and it hasn't become stuck again. My big question is : Is there a secondary release somewhere for the fuel door if it will not open? Or, if it will not open is the only option forcing/bending the fuel door open.

I don't know about a secondary release. I see you're in Canada. Maybe it could be the cold weather. But it can be the mechanism as well. The only release I know of is the one by the driver's seat. You might want to take it to a dealer and ask them. Best of luck.
