When to change Timing Belt...Yaris 2008

Hi -

I own a 2008 Yaris with 69,500 miles on it. The timing belt hasn't been changed, but I was wondering when it should be replaced?

I'm taking my car in for an oil change, should I just ask them how it looks and rely on them to tell me when to change it?

I thought these cars have a timing chain and in theory they don't need to be changed. But I could be wrong. That's from what I read.

No, you're right. No belt, only a chain that doesn't need to be changed.

Nuh uh, change around 120k or for good measure (or around there). They do stretch out over time, and the gears on the cam and crank also need to be changed with it for even wear. These things are not completely indestructable chains, folks.

Technically I'm over-due, and the engine seems to be telling me so with the sound and 29-31mpg. She's still very willing, but not as quiet or efficient.

The 1NZ engine in the Yaris does have a timing chain...no belt.

Changing a chain at 120k is a bit excessive IMO. There's no "time needed" to replace but if you're going to, I wouldn't do it that soon.
