Is this piece really important??

Ok, i took out the tranny, and when we pulled out the transaxle thinggy, we had to break the C clamps... Do i need to buy new ones and put them on again. I dont know and my friend doesnt know whether we need it. He said sometimes we dont, but we want to know for sure whether we do or dont for my tercel.

its that little C shaped thing that is soposed to go inbetween the little gaps that a ring would go around.

Should i just go to toyota and buy another two of them? Kuz i went to Kragen and they have a different kind.

Thanks

If they were there when you took 'em out, they should be there when you put them back in.

Yes, get genuine toyota parts.

Ok heres the dealio......, the circlip that was on the inner joint is replaceable and it comes with the CV boot kit, HOWEVER the circlip that holds the outer CV joint is NOT replaceable "DO NOT REMOVE THE OUTER JOINT OFF THE SHAFT" unless you have a replacement circlip. I've tried 2 different parts sources and NO luck whatsoever!!! I removed mine to clean out all the old grease and to put on a new boot(all factory parts BTW) and when i was driving saturday night i made a rather sharp left hand turn and the axle shaft pulled out of the outer joint(the circlip failed.....its a one time use only!) and totally left me stranded!!! IF you decide to replace the boot, clean it out with something like brake cleaner as best you can but LEAVE IT ON THE SHAFT. The inner joint is designed to come off and that will allow you to remove the outer boot and the damper. I wished i knew this before i screwed mine up!!!!!
