ECHO hatch intake question

does anyone know if i am able to just remove the filter box in the echo hb, and shove the K&N cone in? sorry i dont really know how to phrase it but i think u get the idea. And if i can, how can i do it DIY installation? sorry again, i dont really know too much about cars... =]
