Camshaft toast, worth fixing or swapping motors ?

Im posting for a friend, we in Halifax NS and he has a 92 Paseo 5 speed with about 300K, recently his camshaft went on him and he told me that his mechanic said it would cost close to $400 to fix, he also complain that the 100HP is not enough (I told him to get a short ram and a higher flowing exhaust which would probably suit his needs better, at least it will sound like it) but he asked me to post somethin on the net about it, Im not into Paseo or Tercels, there cool cars (has anyone seen pics of the BMW conversions in Japan ?) so when he said swap the first thing I though of was the 4A-GE DOHC engine form the Corolla GTS, I dont think he want to spend the kinda money to get an engine form Japan that we dint get but I know these engines are nice, and like to rev high. So question is do they swap right in ? how much is the appprox cost and what else is needed besides the engine ? any other worth while options that arent expensive ? Or should he just fix the camshaft (is he gettin ripped off at $400) and get some bolt ons ?

tell him to look for a 4efte with the ecu out of a starlet gt. its 1.3 turbo charged engine. has like 130 hp i think or in that range thats a direct swap. will need to do some wiring to get the interior guages and stuff to work though.
