Canada Connecting an iPod to stock stereo?

I have a 2000 4dr Echo with the stock stereo (AM/FM/CD) and was wondering if anyone has successfully connected an iPod to the stereo (not using an FM transmitter).

Yes - a lot of people are using the www.mp3yourcar.com adapter with their stock radios. This web site has some good info also. I have one in my car and like it a lot. I will go so far to say I like mine over my friends Alpine unit.

That solution is rather expensive. Isn't it possible to connect the ipod directly too the AUX port (I don't really need to be able to control the ipod from the radio -just play through it).

I have a Dell DJ and a Belkin Tunecast II. It sits in the cup holder and the MP3 player sits on top. It will run off two AAA batteries or a 12v source. I keep it plugged in inside the center console. The lid is notched out to allow small wires to fit through. I think it's a great setup. You will have to play with the frequency to find a static-free station. I use 107.5

I'm going to get the PA10-TOY http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=711 within the next few weeks. It's not too expensive and BestBuy said an install would be about $50, so I'll let you know how it goes.

Best buy is always $$ - the install costs around 20 bucks for these adapters.

Any local car audio store should be able to help you. It's not a hard job at all so do not pay over 30 bucks for the install.

Depending on your car - sometimes they just plug right into the cd changer port.

hey nockamura or anyone who may know this..
by using the part that nockamura is getting...i will be hooking it up to the trunk of my car. but does this mean that everytime i want to listen from my external source (ie ipod) i need to press CD? because i still want CD capability.

sorry...just checked out the mp3yourcar unit.
was wondering if getting this unit would take over the CD or does it act like an AUX.
it also claims the folloing:

Control iPod with Stereo + Steering Wheel Controls

how does that work?
when they say control, do they mean control volume and press next?

I just had it installed. It's great.

I'm not sure about using more than one cd (I don't have multi-cd capability), but you can still have single CD access in addition to an aux in as well as an iPod in. If you have steering wheel controls, then you can control up to 6 playlists on your iPod (without having to touch your iPod) and the volume of your iPod. You can also switch between FM, AM, CD, Aux and iPod using the steering wheel. Why you would want to use a CD if you have an iPod and aux inputs is beyond me.
