Question Check Engine Light On

Hi all,

I have a 2000 Echo, 5spd. Today when I was driving on the freeway, suddenly the Check Engine Light was on. I went to Autozone to check the error code. It showed
"P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected". I don't feel anything wrong with the engine sound and performance. What do you guys think the cause of this error? BTW, I had the air filter replaced about 2 weeks ago. The guy was hammering when he put on the filter as I could see from distance. Is it possible that some sensors near the air filter got wrong?

Thanks for any suggestion!

I've got a new 2005. The car's all new to me but that the book says to go to a dealer if the light comes on, but maybe there's a few things you can check. Are all Plugs firing? Check to see if one of the wires didn't get pulled. Check rotor and cap condition. You may want to check compression and overall performance. Have oil pump checked with pressure guage and check filter to see if it's clogged. Check fuel pump while you at it.

Anyone putting a hammer to a part just to get a filter on doesn't sound like someone who knows what he's doing.

Thanks man! I will go to find a mechanic to check that. But somebody suggested that there might be some problem with the fuel injector. Is that possible?

Don't always listen to what the dealership tells you to do. If the car is running fine and doesn't SEEM to be anything wrong............................................. .............................................
Simply remove the negative terminal of the battery, and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. This will allow for the computer to reset any error codes. Start the vehicle up, drive it around a while and see if the light comes back on. If it does....THEN take it to your dealership. If it stays off, I wouldn't worry about a thing.

he bent the valves?? damn...doesnt the vvti activate in certain conditions only like driving under load ?
oh..i did a quick check..i think theres a Technical service bulletin on 2000 echos w/ P0300 code..if the igntion system checks ok..maybe a problem with the logic in the ECM ..there should be an updated ECM for your ECHO..check w/ ur nearest toyota dealer about that.
unfortunate part, your warranty is probably over so its gonna cost you a good chunk if it fact its the ECM problem.
