Question on maintenance

Toyota wants to do the following to my car:
  • Alignment 70$
  • Battery inspection 26$
  • Brake oil replacement 70$
  • clean rear brakes 50$
  • replace front brakes 370$

Anyhow, I have them doing the alignment (which I knew was off) and replacing the brake oil (probably ripping me off).

I told them I'd get back to them for the rest. Rear brakes are rusty...but cleaning apparently is like a band aid solution. They'll eventually need to be changed. What do you think?

Alignment price is not bad.

Battery inspection is high

brake fluid price is expensive, but is a service that should be done more regularly than most people do, so sure, get it done while you're there. Front brakes seem in order with going rates, and the rears...why bother cleaning them if there's no problem.

My opinions, prices and services may vary where you are, and depend on the condition of your car.

What do you need for front brakes? I got my rotors and pads for about $100 total. Alignment cost me about $55-$60 but at the dealership its expected to pay a little more.

$26.00 for a battery inspection?????

For that kind of $ you can go buy yourself a voltmeter, and test your battery for free for the rest of your life. You can also test your alternator, and ANY other electrical component.

To visually inspect your battery, check it out and make sure that it isn't damaged in any way(ie:cracked), clean the terminals with some penetrating oil(WD-40), and to stop from getting that blue/white build up on your terminals, put some grease on them.

Like Bob said, most other prices seem alright/reasonable.
