Computer "re-learn" procedure--how?

Hello everyone.

I have a question. Since I don't own the pricey factory manuals yet, perhaps I can get the answer here. I remember that basically all cars with a computer in them need to "re-learn" various engine sensor, etc. settings once the battery is disconnected. This can be a very unusual procedure for some cars (i.e., before my 2003 Echo, I had a 1992 Chevy Lumina, and I recall that in order to do the "re-learn" you had to run the engine for three minutes, shut it off for 30 seconds, start it for 30 seconds and shut it down....oh yes, and all of the accessories had to be "on" during the 3 minute period --A/C, lights, etc. etc.)

I will be installing a CD-FM upgrade to my Echo, and will need to disconnect the battery for about 2 hours. Does ANYONE know how to get this car to "re-learn" its settings? What is the procedure?

Perhaps someone who owns the factor manual can help?

Thank you so much. Just trying to be careful here.

Jack.

I think you can just run the engine and it will just "relearn" itself. But I do not know Echos very well.

Perhaps call your local dealer or email toyota and ask them.

Toyota computers are happy learning machines. They will figure out the fuel maps again after a while of driving it. Nothing serious, just might take a couple of days of driving around to get right back in the sweet spot.
