Pollen filter optional in 05 hb?

Okay so get this: my new RS started to smell really funny inside, and because it was so new, I was absolutely positive that I'd never spilled anything in there, or that there was any kind of food in there. Irregardless, I decided to get my carpets and floors shampooed at about 8000 clicks. Alas, the guy who shampooed my car tells me that it's NOT the shampoos and he thinks it's coming from the ventilation. He went on to tell me that he had the same problem with an STI a few days earlier. The smell is kind of seafoody and it's STRONG, guy. So, out of ideas I bring my little hb to Toyota: "tell me what the hell is wrong with my new car." THe guy checks it out and finds out there's no pollen filter because apparantly they're OPTIONAL on '05s . ?! I didn't even KNOW this... (meaning if it was optional I can't claim my warranty for their service.... #@^&) so now I spend my non-money to GET the pollen filter put in and for them to clean out and deodorize my current filter. Now, as far as the guy told me... my filters were all mussed up (probably because I study in Guelph and commute on 401 every weekend at least twice, catching gross highway and farmtown debris). In any case, I was lucky the nice guy at Weitzes didn't charge me for the labour and cut like 8 bucks off the price of both the deodorizer and the pollen filter (which he tells me, had I gotten I might have avoided the smell)... (It's good to be woman hah.) Fast forward to a few days later, my car just smells like shampoo now. Comments? Questions? Dang I dealt with this issue for about 2 months!

Get your pollen filter from Canadian Tire. It's $20 vs. $50 from the dealer. Got it for the Camry will get it for my Prius once it gets dirty.
