The echo is being phased out, to be replaced by the Vitz/Yaris hatchback. Canada is getting the Vitz/Yaris (which is just the redesign of the echo hatch we currently get) next month and the USA should follow suit soon.

Echo production has stopped, and it is discontinued in the US, as is Celica...

Any 2005 models left on lots are all that's left...

Yaris in spring 2006 as a replacement...

After 2003 Toyota left the Echo available on order only (U.S.) That's why they were so limited between 2003-2005. Echo production ended in July, but you might be able to find a dealer that has a leftover 2005.

Yeah the problem with the new Yaris ... Its going to have all the same electronics as the Scion XA and Xb which will limit its road racing capabilities...

How's that work? What wrong with the xA, xB electronics that don't make it so great for road racing?

I've been considering getting an Echo Coupe (only type we have in the US) or an xA to replace my 240sx. I drive nearly 120 miles a day and it's wearing on my 240. The Echo and xA are both pretty light and get great gas mileage. However, if one has inferior electronics compared to the other, that will make my choice a lot simpler.

the xa and the xb has a type of yaw control and traction control. The ecu can read the angle of the car and if the angle is pass its safe limit, it pulls timing and fuel... Theres a way to bypass that feature but you lose your anti-lock brakes... The ecu currently on the echo's now (both here in the states and canada) has a more tuner friendly ecu... The Scion's got the 64bit ecu while the echo's got the 16bit... The scion ecu is a self learning ecu, where you add a new mod it re-adjust it self to get it back to stock tuning...
