Hi. I just replaced the rear 6x9 speakers on my 03 Echo Sedan. Does anyone know what size is the standard for the door speakers on this vehicle? Crutchfield has both a 5 1/4 and and a
6 1/2" speaker that fits. I also would like to replace the dash speakers, but they look like nothing I have ever seen, basically a one inch or so diameter round piece? Not sure how to determine all this before I pull off the door panel.
Doors are 6.5" to my knowledge, and dash are 4inch, i put some pioneer 4's in my wife's 2003 echo.

Thanks man. I did finally verify that door are 6.5 and ordered some from JCWhitney. Also, the dash on mine are definitely not 4"....like I say, they are like 1.5" or 2", probably some kind of "tweeter". not that hard to pull out. appreciate the reply.

Really? I'll have to get some pics of the 4" ones i have in there, get a pic once you have your tweeters in there.

Your echo most likely came with the upgraded radio/tape player or the 3-in-1 ETR radio w/ CD and tape. The base radio (at least here in US) only came with 4 speakers.
The dash speakers are indeed tweeters and by my calculations, run from about 10K-12K up the speaker frequency limit. So they do have a great impact on the sound. Give the sound a much better high end as well as imaging IMO.
This is Toyoyta's idea of a "Component" system. and it works relatively well.
You can fit a 4T speaker in the opening, but just as in other Toyotas, you will have interfeance issues, unless the speaker has only two mounting tabs and/or removable tabs.
The doors are 6.5 vspeakers, however I have heard they are mounted in such a way to remove them requires they be drilled out. Most after market speakers DO NOT FIT because of how shallow the doors are. I haven't tried yet, but I'm betting that a brcket or mounting plate can be made relatively easy to mount a slightly deeper speaker.
I'm not sure if the SAME speakes (DOORS and REAR DECK) that are used on the base radio system are the same as those in the upgraded radio systems. Does anyone know this?
I had a 2002 ECHO with the Cassette radio and 6 speakers. The car was totaled in an accident a week ago. We just bought a certified 2003 from the dealer as a replacement car. It only came with the base radio and 4 speakers. I took the tweaters and wiring from the wrecked car and installed them in the 2003. (believe it or not the car already has the wiring harness waiting for teh speaker!) SOunds pretty good, but could use a bit more mid-bass up front.
Thanks for the reply. The 6.5" speakers say "narrow profile - fits most car doors" they are from Pyramid speakers. So, I can only hope that they fit. When I read your reply about the door width, I kind of got wondering if they would fit, so I will have to wait and see. Sorry to hear about your totaled 2002 Echo. As it turns out, I got into a fender bender, but not that serious. The damages are $2,500....mainly to left front fender, bumper, and some "slight" frame straightening on one of those huge machines they have in body shops...I actually am going to get it tomorrow. I have a CRAPPY Kia for a loaner....gutless little car. Yeah you are right about having to drill them out. I just installed (before my fender bender) a Sirius ready Kenwood receiver in my Echo and replaced the rear 6 x 9"s.....had to make "custom" speaker mounts from thin particle board due to the "traingular shape" of the original mount. But it was worth it after I got them in. Crutchfield.com sent me an entire sheet on how to replace ALL speakers and radio with the radio that I bought from them. Really informative. That's why I know the door speakers have to be drilled out--the sheet from Crutchfield is year specific to my car. I would just hate to go through tearing the door paneling off only to find out my Pyramids are too "fat".....after reading your post I am going to stay with "tweeter only" solution to the dash speakers. They are incredibly easy to remove. Now all I gotta do is find some "drop in" tweeters. I'll figure it out.
I called Crutchfeild and was told they had NO speakers to fit the 6.5 front door locations. Their "what fits" guide seems to concur this.
I spoke with a sales manand was told the max depth in the doors is only 1.6 inches! Not sure how that addsup, but Iwas hoping for some nice Infinity Components for the front and rear and a small Powered Sub under the seat.
only three words..."oh my God." If worse comes to worse, I will have extra speakers laying around in my garage. I am going to measure them when I get home (at work now). 1.6" huh....well I'll know more in about 2 hours. Just an update, got my car out of the body shop 10/8....ran ok until I got on the freeway on ramp (light). It died. Managed to limp to the shoulder after starting it again. Waited for one minute, tried it, and all seemed ok. Got it home and later left to pick up my son (on Monday), and it died going around the corner. Took it to Toyota service (my '03 only has 18K on it!). They said "loose wire, bad ground". So, they fixed it. I GUESS the body shop didn't "reconnect" things properly, at least not that one wire. Luckily, the computer in the car flashed "check engine" so Toyota got the code and was able to narrow it down. Those computers are amazing. Broderp, thanks for the research on the speakers. Maybe I will get lucky on the depth........
Hey jlift;
speaker size in the doors and the dash (if you have them ) is 4" ... While you can use a 6.5" speakers but you would need a 1" spacer... And this adapter... http://www.cardomain.com/item/SCOSAT6
Well, now I am totally confused. I will just have to wait until this Saturday (only 2 more days) and take off the panel. Then I'll know. I'll post what I find. Hey, by the way, thanks. I am getting there.....should be an expert on the Echo soon enough. Learn by doing..

the speaker size is 4" and tached on to the door ... sooo you would have to drill them out... Hey bro, I'm starting to modify my system too ... soooo I'm a newbie to modding in audio... Except I do have my own opinoin on what speakers to stay with ...
