Canada P0505

I had this fixed finally in late Jan 2006.

It was the Idle Speed Control Valve/Motor. It is a small part under the throttle body that allows the bypass of air when the throttle is closed, so that the engine stays idling until it warms up. So when it is not working and cold you had to hold the throttle open with the gas pedal until warm.
The problem can be the 3 wires to the plug, the plug itself, or worst case the valvle/motor.
In my case it was the valve/motor problem. It was an hour to diagnose, an hour to fix, and about $450 CDN for the part.
What is really annoying is several Toyata service locations telling you that they have never heard of this part failing before. I am assuming/hoping that as the oldest model of Echo, that it is just startingto fail on these early models, and we may hear more about this.
I will try to include a picture of my old one (for that price I wanted my old one back).

Hope this helps.

Yep its the IAC under the throttle body, i just did one on an XB the other day at work. Recommend doing it when the engine is cooled off, otherwise it can be a little uncomfortable.

I am experiencing this as a pending code, no check engine light, but the engine is dying at idle. Can the ISC Motor be changed out by a shade tree mechanic?

2000 Tundra, v8, automatic, air, towing package.
