Question How to Replace Yaris Steering Wheel ?

Hi,

I have just bought a standad Yaris leather steering wheel with remote control and wondered how to remove my original plastic steering wheel so I can replace it.

Basically this breaks down into.
1 - Removing & replacing the steering wheel without setting off the airbag.
2 - Connecting the remote controls to the existing original CD unit.

If anybody can give me some pointers as to what to do (or what NOT to do) I'd be grateful.
If this requires some special tools then I'd be happy to get my local Toyota garage to do it for me but I'd also like to learn for myself.
I've got access to a full range of tools, pullers etc and have removed wheels from previous cars I've owned. Its the air bag thingy thats concerning me.

Thanks
Philm

When it comes to steering wheels with airbags, I would recommend taking it to the dealership to be safe...

Cheers

Disconnect the battery and wait 2 minutes before work, and you won't pop your airbags.

Mark where the old wheel is pointed so you can put the new wheel on oriented properly.

Not sure if you will have place there to wire your remote back to the car. If the spiral cable doesn't have enough conductors or you can't plug the remote in you're SOL.

If your leather wheel does not come with airbags (most likely so), and the airbag shapes are different, you are also SOL.

Do you need to transfer the cruise control stalk over, if one's there?
