The issue is doing a precise rework costs a lot of money that may only pay off in small gains.

There might be something in using better quality piston rings, making sure the bearing tolerances are OK.

Polish the crank journals, balance crank if using oversize pistons.

Perhaps minor head work, polish exhaust ports, equalizing combustion chambers, 3 angle valve job.

Using synthetic oils in the engine and diff may help. Also trans if stick, not up on it use in automatics.
