yes. Toyota used the A340 in just about everything RWD or 4WD till they started using the 5 speed auto derived from it. the MKIII supra turbo auto trans is identical to the one in your Cressida now. Just don't go wild as they're ok to about 350 or 400 hp ---this is what I've heard here and there, not confirmed--- you'll definitely want to go with an aftermarket trans cooler but have the trans oil go through the aftermarket cooler then through the stock one in the lower tank of the radiator, then back to the trans. Like other kinds of oil, it does its job best "at operating temperature" so you don't want to over-cool it.

for the 7mgte the single biggest thing (other than upgrading the head gasket) you can do, that you'll partially have to do anyway, is aftermarket exhaust. the stock stuff necks down to 2.25". use an aftermarket elbow and do 3" back for a pretty significant gain over the supra system.
