88 4runner diff ratio

My 1988 4runner front diff (the one i blew up) as it says is a 4:10 ratio Code of G292 (G= 8" Ring, 29= 4:10, 2= 2 Pinion)
My 4runner is a V6. Well i went and bought a used front diff to replace it, i looked for the same code on the same year 4runner and found a front diff code of G292, BUT it was out of a 22re 4runner and the diff also had an air lock mechanism on it. I installed it on my 4runner and it binds, so i now know its NOT the same... now why the same code but different ratios?

What year/model was the replacement diff from? Maybe the previous owner regeared when he put the air locker in.

i believe it was from an 87 4runner...im thinking he regeared aswell.... anyways i have another replacement diff now, its a G294 so it should work. its just a 4 pinion instead of 2 so its stronger i guess.

A V6 rear diff should be 4 pinion from the factory.

The V6 front diff is the same as the 4 cyl, and both use 7.5" ring gears.
