New 1987 4Runner

Hello, my name is Lee, I'm new to this sight. I own a 1987 4Runner, bought it new. It is an SR5, 22RE 5 speed, fully loaded, and approx 320,000 miles on it. It is all original.

I am about to pull the motor and tranny (it's jumping out of gear and burning a little oil) to rebuild them both. In the meantime, I have access to a 22RE engine and tranny complete with transfer case out of a 91 Toyota truck. Will that unit bolt up directly in place of my 87 engine and tranny?

Anything I need to look for with making this swap out?

Yes. The only difference is a minor improvement to the EFI intake.

Hey Lee!
I swapped a 22re and 5 speed out of a 92 into my 87 runner! the swap went fairly easy just had a few wiring issues with the reverse light wiring! but other than that the swap was easy as pie!

Should bolt right in!
Post pics if possible
