1st gen MPG

What kind of MPG could I expect out of a 1st gen 4WD with a 4 cyl (22re?) and a 5 speed? Best case/worst case?

If not modded is the ride compliant enough to be an interstate traveler?

TIA,
Bill

With a stock, worn 22R I get in the 16-18 mpg range, and mine is extremely modified .
A stock EFI truck would be in the 20+ range.

That depends on what level of comfort you're accustomed to. An IFS 4Runner still rides like it's a truck, but by my estimation, it's not bad at all. I've made plenty of cross-country interstate road trips without discomfort. The solid axle trucks ride a bit harsher than the IFS trucks, but it's not a big enough difference to worry about (certainly not if you want/need the benefits of a SAS).
