Cool A/C retrofit to R134

Anybody converted their A/C to R134? I have a 1986 4Runner with R12. Found a Toyota site which has a lot of info, but just wondering if all of it is necessary? The retro kits at Autozone are real generic and seem maybe too simple. Just wondering if any of you have done this successfully??? And what you HAD to do. Thanks

I had mine converted several years ago. The system was in decent condition to begin with, and could hold a a vacuum. After the r134 ws added it lasted 3 yrs before the higher system pressure blew out the front seal of pump, which was to be expected because of the higher pressures.

Thanks FOURWD1, The Toyota Tech bulletin(AC002-98) says to replace those o-rings along with the receiver/dryer and several other o-rings. You have to remove the compressor to do part of this. Did you do any of this on yours? Or did you do the Autozone way and just replace the freon fittings(High & Low), evacuate it and put in the R134? Anyway, thanks again for answering
