87 4Runner sluggish when leaving stop light

Hi, I've got a 1987 4Runner and when you take off from the stop light it feels like its doesn't have much power until you reach about 3000 RPM.
Any ideas would help thanks.

It's bone stock around 200,000 miles just replaced the head gasket & timing chain & grears. New to toyotas

I had similar issues with my 87 4runner. I was told that either my clutch was slipping or I was leaking some fluid on the clutch. I haven't been able to get this in the shop yet though. I plan on replacing the clutch soon.

My issue was when i would get off the interstate. When I would wait for a light to turn green, it felt as though I was trying to get going in second gear instead of first. Like your issue, it seemed as if i had no power in first gear until i hit somewhere near 3,000 RPMs.

Found the problem I had a injector come unpluged. I'm glad it was a simple fix.
