New to Toyota, 4-high issue....

I have a few questions. I have just purchased my first Toyota it is a 1992 4 runner with a 5speed 4 banger. So far I have figured out its gremlins except for the 4 wheel drive system. when i engage the 4 high or low the front tires do not spin, the drive shaft turns but not the wheels. When I rotate the wheels by hand the half shafts turn. What am I missing. I noticed a electrical conection on the pumpkin and also some vacum lines what are those for. so far besides this issues all is good. Any help.

Tstory,

First off the vacuum lines are for engaging the auto locker, switching on and off the drive motor to engage and disengage the front wheels. The electrical connection is for the light on the gauge cluster to tell you that the 4wd system has been activated.
So now some questions. Does the green or blue light come on to tell you that you have engaged the fwd system? The next question is. Have you checked for leaks in those 2 vacuum lines. They tend to get damaged and will leak. If thy leak it will either not engage or not disengage.

Try swapping the lines at the brown and blue modules (VSVs) that the vac lines run to. Takes 5 seconds and could save you a lot of time.

Just to be clear, the vacuum lines are not engaging a locker, a locker is a traction adding device installed in the differential.

The vacuum lines are for the actuator used to connect the two parts of the driver's side half shaft. This is the heart of Toyota's Automatic Disconnecting Differential (ADD) 4WD system. It is located adjacent to the diff on the drivers side of the axle housing.

ADD 101 and 102
